About me…
I write stories that wander in gray spaces—where morality is uncertain, where conflict isn’t just external but internal, and where survival takes many forms.
I’m from the Eastern U.S. coast, from Maryland to Florida. Today, I write from a porch overlooking Spring Bayou, halfway up Florida’s west coast. The view shifts with the tides, but the stories remain—unfolding in history, in the present, and in the quiet, unresolved moments in between.
As an award-winning journalist, my work has appeared in newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Tampa Bay Times, and St. Petersburg Times, where I was a staff writer for 12 years. My background in investigative and feature writing has shaped my approach to storytelling: I look for the human stakes, the truths that linger beneath the surface, and the universal struggles that connect us.
Beyond writing, I teach. Writing is an act of immersion, and so is teaching—an ongoing dialogue that sharpens narratives, deepens understanding, and fosters discovery.
At my core, I consider myself an artist, holding a mirror—to history, to the present. My work is about about asking difficult questions, about refusing to look away.
